Truth Doesn't Make a Noise 2019
42.5" x 31" acrylic on canvas

The inspiration for this new series comes from Dutch Golden Age still life. They were concerned with telling a story with objects by employing the vanitas theme. I would like to update that tradition and tell contemporary stories through still life. Depicted is a politically themed still life meant to be seen almost as an imaginary tableau.

false equivalence

False Equivalence
47.5" x 35" acrylic and ink on canvas

The theme of this series is the lamentation of the rejection of The Enlightenment in our current age. The work features a limited palette and drawing techniques often found in etchings. Each piece will feature a quote from an Enlightenment thinker meant to engage the viewer in thinking about truth and social justice. Depicted is a pair of shoes as a stand-in for the binary pair of true and false.

blue wave

Blue Wave: a Carpet Foam 2019
24" x 24" acrylic on canvas

This series is inspired by the most banal of items - an ordinary foam padding found underneath carpet. The artist found a particularly colorful foam padding when renovating his closet. A small section was photographed, projected then traced onto a canvas. The individual domains were colored in with colors chosen by the artist. The result is shown. Future work will use the same photograph of the carpet foam to control the composition but different domains will be distorted in size. There will also be small figurative paintings that appear in many of the domains. The goal is to have something so insignificant as to go unnoticed control the composition of a series.

olga

Olga in Fancy Dress 2019
18" x 24" acrylic on canvas

This piece is an experiment. In painting class the artist was told to make an alternate version of a crude thrift store painting of a lady with a purple background that also featured a rainbow. Shown here is the result taking an image of the artist's friend Olga as source material.
